A New Tinnitus Treatment Is Now Available In Colorado
Hope is now here for tinnitus sufferers. The revolutionary Neuromonics Tinnitus Treatment has been shown in clinical trials to result in a significant improvement in tinnitus symtoms.
Clinical trial completed over the last decade show that up to 90% of people who suffer from tinnitus experienced;
- relief from tinnitus
- an improved ability to fall asleep
- a sense of control over their tinnitus
- reduced disturbance from their tinnitus
The Neuromonics Tinnitus Treatment involves listening to an acoustic signal that is customized for each person’s unique hearing profile. The acoustic signal is embedded in music, making it pleasant and relaxing to listen to. This signal targets your brain’s neural pathways and re-programs them to filter out the tinnitus sound while reducing the disturbance and impact of tinnitus on your quality of life.
Over a period of six months, the treatment is delivered by listening to a specially designed medical device-the Neuromonics Processor-for a couple of hours a day. It is compact and lightweight which makes it easy to incorporate treatment into your lifestyle.
A program of visits with our Audiologists helps to guide and support your progress throughout treatment to ensure you receive maximum benefits.
The Neuromonics Tinnitus Treatment has been designed to break the negative cycle of tinnitus disturbance. It provides stimulation to auditory pathways starved by hearing loss, engages positively with the limbic system (an emotional response system), and allows intermittent exposure to the tinnitus perception within a pleasant stimulus, thereby leading to desensitization. This results in reduced awareness of tinnitus and associated disturbance. Its ability to do this successfully has been demonstrated in clinical trials involving hundreds of people with tinnitus and reduced sound tolerance.
What does the Neuromonics Tinnitus Treatment involve?
As each person’s tinnitus experience is unique, the Neuromonics Tinnitus Treatment is customized for each individual.
It involves 5 key stages:
Step 1: Comprehensive Personalized AssessmentAn audiologist conducts a thorough hearing (up to 12.5 kHz) and tinnitus assessment,
discusses tinnitus history and provides some education about tinnitus and its causes. Once the hearing and tinnitus profile is determined, recommendations are made about the most appropriate treatment options including the Neuromonics Tinnitus Treatment.
Step 2: Processor ConfigurationEach individual’s audiometric profile is used to make their prescription for their Neuromonics Processor.
The Neuromonics device is small and lightweight (its about the same size and weight of a cell phone) and accompanied by high fidelity earphones. It delivers the acoustic component of the treatment.
The acoustic stimulus provides stimulation across a considerably wider range of frequencies than other available treatments, up to 12.5 kHz. The acoustic signals are distinct for each ear and correlated, and are provided in stereo. This further ensures stimulation of the multiple ipsilateral and contralateral pathways of the auditory system.
Step 3: Pre-Conditioning Stage
During the Pre-Conditioning Stage, users are advised to listen to their device for at least two hours each day. In this initial stage, the device delivers an acoustic neural stimulus that provides a high level of interaction with their tinnitus perception. The benefits of this stage are relaxation, sleep and relief from tinnitus symptoms. Support and education is provided throughout this stage by our Audiologist.
Step 4: Active Treatment Stage
During this Stage, users also listen to the device for at least two hours per day. At this stage, an acoustic neural stimulus provides a lower level of interaction. Intermittent interaction with the tinnitus perception facilitates the de-sensitisation process, ie reprograms the brain to filter out the sound of the tinnitus. This process has proven to be efficient and effective at reducing the associated disturbance and impact on quality of life.
After a successful program of treatment lasting around six months, a maintenance program is devised for each individual to manage and control their tinnitus independently of clinician support. Many users find they may not feel the need to use the device any more. If they do continue listening, it’s usually for less often and for less time each day to maintain the benefits achieved.
