Hearing Tests
At Colorado Tinnitus and Hearing Center, we provide thorough diagnostic hearing evaluations using advanced testing equipment and protocols. Our comprehensive approach allows us to accurately assess your hearing ability across different frequencies and environments, identify potential hearing issues, and develop targeted treatment plans based on your unique hearing profile and lifestyle needs.

Comprehensive Hearing Assessment
A proper hearing evaluation involves much more than simply determining whether you can hear certain tones. Our doctors of audiology conduct detailed assessments that examine how well you hear different frequencies, your ability to understand speech in various environments, and how your auditory system processes sound. We take the time to perform more extensive testing than you might receive elsewhere, ensuring we gather all the information needed to address your specific hearing concerns.

Benefits of Professional Hearing Evaluation
Professional hearing evaluations provide significant advantages over basic screenings or online hearing tests. Our comprehensive approach allows for early identification of hearing issues before they progress, and precise diagnosis of the type and degree of hearing loss to guide appropriate treatment.
Unlike retail hearing centers, our evaluations focus on your overall hearing health rather than simply selling devices. Our doctors of audiology take time to explain your results thoroughly and discuss how various treatment options align with your lifestyle needs and communication challenges. This patient-centered approach leads to better outcomes and higher satisfaction with recommended solutions.
Diagnostic Measures in Our Comprehensive Evaluation
Our hearing evaluations include several specialized diagnostic measures to assess different aspects of your hearing:
Pure Tone Audiometry - Measures your ability to hear tones at different pitches and volumes, establishing your hearing thresholds across the frequency range essential for speech understanding
Otoacoustic Emissions (OAE) - Evaluates the function of your inner ear's outer hair cells, which are critical for normal hearing sensitivity and often the first to be damaged from noise exposure or ototoxicity
Extended High Frequency Testing - Assesses hearing sensitivity beyond the standard frequency range to detect early signs of hearing damage that might not yet affect everyday communication
Speech-in-Noise Testing - Measures your ability to understand speech in background noise, providing valuable information about real-world listening challenges that pure tone tests alone cannot identify
A comprehensive hearing evaluation typically takes 60-90 minutes, allowing sufficient time for thorough testing and discussing your results and any questions you may have.
We provide hearing evaluations for patients 8 years and older. For younger children, we can refer you to pediatric audiology specialists who have equipment and techniques specifically designed for testing very young children.
Companions are welcome and encouraged. Having a familiar voice during testing can be helpful, and a second person often helps remember information provided during the consultation portion of your appointment.
Most insurance plans, including Medicare, cover diagnostic hearing evaluations when medically necessary. We accept most major insurance plans and can verify your coverage before your appointment.
Most hearing tests are non-invasive and painless. However, some specialized assessments, particularly for patients with tinnitus or sound sensitivity disorders, may occasionally cause temporary discomfort during testing. Our audiologists are experienced in working with sensitive patients and will ensure your comfort throughout the evaluation.
Bring your insurance information, a list of current medications, any previous hearing test results if available, and notes about your hearing concerns or situations where you have difficulty hearing.
